CNN today has been hammering the story of the Blue Angels today. It would seem a Blue Angles jet crashed on Saturday, killing the pilot. Now it is a tragic accident and I am sure very said for those who knew the pilot. According to the Department of Defense six American service people died on active duty in Iraq on Saturday alone. Why is CNN doing the Blue Angels full on scattered with a dash of Virginia Tech? Because it makes good tv. It’s new and interesting.

The continued operation of the meat grinder in Iraq isn’t news, as I have mentioned before. People keep dying and there is no evidence that there will be any news in Iraq for the foreseeable future, although the increasing attacks inside the Green Zone makes me think that the next big story from Iraq will be the US abandoning the Green Zone for US Army bases.

Now the Virgina Tech story is starting to fade, but I think Eli and others made a great point about the whole thing. In Iraq, there are two Virginia Techs every day, and it isn’t even big news anymore. News would be a day in Iraq without anyone mass killings.
